September 28, 2010—Five of the best-known hotels in Brussels are on a single system
for procuring quality ingredients to support those property’s eight food and beverage
outlets and world-class banquet facilities.
“Adaco .NET provides our operations with an effective and workable system to control
costs and purchase all goods and services” said Anthony Houghton, Purchasing Director
for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Brussels. “Our chefs use it everyday, some are taking
pictures so they can ensure an accurate presentation with items using the recipe
costing function.”
In a recent bid, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide selected Adaco.NET to optimize
recipe management in Starwood’s owned and managed hotels in North America. In Brussels,
Starwood properties deployed Adaco .NET earlier this year and use it for all food
and beverage, printing and stationery, uniforms, guest amenities and cleaning products,
“Almost everything the hotels purchase,” Houghton said.
Houghton said the advantage of having a single system allows Starwood to negotiate
with suppliers across the area and take advantage of volume purchasing. “Each hotel
can order independently from local suppliers and benefit because we’re buying for
five hotels.”
Once logged in, managers are able to move from property to property without logging
out if they are responsible for more than one hotel, Houghton said. “This gives
you the advantage of consolidated reporting at the end of the year at whatever level
of detail is required.”
In addition, Adaco .NET helps Starwood achieve its goal of reducing paper use. “All
purchase requisitions are sent electronically and the PO can be sent directly to
the supplier,” Houghton said. The properties use hand-held bar code readers tied
to Adaco .NET to confirm the arrival of deliveries, providing additional cost controls
and simplifying accounting.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts operates five properties in Brussels namely, Le Méridien
Brussels, Sheraton Brussels Hotel, Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel, Four Points
by Sheraton Brussels and the brand-new Aloft Brussels Schuman, the first of Starwood’s
new urban-inspired Aloft hotels in Europe.
“Starwood Brussels is to be commended for their dedication to taking paper out of
the process wherever it makes sense,” said Ian Hocking, Director of Adaco Europe.
“They were able to move smoothly to our .NET offering and have discovered many direct
benefits of that conversion.”
